President Akufo-Addo has appointed former Railways Minister Joe Ghartey as the new chair of the reconstituted Board of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The nine-member board, inaugurated on May 22, 2024, by Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, includes representatives from various sectors, such as Dr. Alex Ampaabeng from the Finance Ministry, Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana Elsie Addo Awadzi, and GRA Commissioner General Julie Essiam.
Other members include Trade Ministry representative Michael Okyere Baafi, former Asante Akim MCE Susan Akomea, presidential representatives Araba Bosomtwe and Kwabena Abankwah Yeboah.
During the inauguration, Dr. Adam emphasized the importance of enhancing Ghana’s revenue mobilization to achieve a tax/GDP ratio of 18%-20%.
He urged the board to utilize their expertise to reduce waste and improve revenue collection, aligning with the country’s obligations under the IMF-supported Post COVID Programme for Economic Growth.
The Finance Minister committed to supporting the board with an open-door policy and regular updates on revenue performance.
The reconstitution follows the resignation of former Board Chairman Dr. Tony Oteng-Gyasi, leading to the appointment of Ms. Julie Essiam as the new GRA Commissioner-General.
