The Kenya Forest Service, Capacity Development Project for Modern Technologies in Forest Fire Management together with a team from Tyllium East Africa Limited has visited the Mau Forest Conservation area to assess the projects operation areas and sites.
The project whose operation came into force in January 2023 aims to procure the design, supply, installation and commissioning of digital trunking radio communication network and forest fire detection network as well as supply of various firefighting vehicles.
It also projects to procure personnel protective equipment and tools; and provision of firefighting training service that would be based at Kenya Forestry College.
The team also held discussions with the Kenya Forestry College Principal Dr.Elizabeth Wambugu, together with the lecturers, with deliberations based on plans for the establishment of the training unit at the college.
The discussions also included other benefits the institution would gain from the project, including Training of Trainers, and installation of equipment in fire management learning labs.
