Nakuru County has recorded a significant milestone in addressing cases of stunting, witnessing a reduction in rates from 27.9 to 18.5 per cent since the commencement of the County Nutrition Action Plan (CNAP) in 2021.
The success can be attributed to several initiatives, including the dissemination of Maternal, Infant, and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) knowledge throughout the County. Additionally, there has been focused capacity building for Healthcare Workers (HCW) and Community Health Promoters (CHPs), along with the establishment of more than 300 Mother Support Groups countrywide.
In a commitment to continuous enhancement, the Department is presently engaged in a mid-term review of the CNAP. This evaluation stems from collaborative efforts involving relevant line ministries, departments, and partners, resulting in the formulation and launch of a comprehensive 5-year CNAP in February 2021. The plan acts as a guiding framework for health-related sectors, partners, and non-state actors, steering them towards the achievement of nutrition objectives.
The mid-term review endeavours to evaluate achievements, pinpoint areas for enhancement, and articulate strategies for sustained success in realizing the desired nutrition objectives.
