The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) in its recently released Energy and Petroluem Statistics Report for the Financial Year 2023 has revealed that 280,624 new customers were successfully connected to the grid between July 2022 and June 2023.
This achievement resulted in a commendable 2% surge in the total number of connected customers, elevating the figure from 8,919,584 in June 2022 to an impressive 9,212,581 customers.
The spike in the customer base is attributed to the robust efforts in the ongoing densification of the national grid and the successful implementation of the Last Mile Connectivity Program (LMCP).
This initiative has not only increased the accessibility of electricity but has also played a pivotal role in fostering economic development and improving the quality of life for a broader segment of the population.
Moreover, the EPRA report highlights Kenya’s commitment to harnessing its abundant renewable energy resources, such as geothermal, hydro, wind, and solar.
With an installed capacity of 2,771.6 MW as of June 2023, renewable energy constitutes a substantial 77.61% of the country’s total installed capacity.
The report underscores the government’s dedication to renewable energy development through policies like the Least Cost Power Development Plan (LCPDP) and Feed-in Tariff (FiT).
