The Power Queens, the women’s wing of the Electricity Company (ECG), has unveiled the FemPower Outreach and Scholarship program in Accra.
The initiative, launched in celebration of the Power Queens’ 35th anniversary, aims to positively impact the lives of 150 women by equipping them for leadership roles in STEM and engineering.
At the launch event, attended by the Chief of Staff of Ghana, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, the women were encouraged to dream boldly and aspire to the highest echelons of their careers.
Osei-Opare shared her own inspiring journey and emphasized the importance of confidence, open-mindedness, and continuous learning for women in leadership.
The Managing Director of ECG, Samuel Dubik Mahama, expressed his support for women’s initiatives, citing his personal experiences with the empowering influence of women in his life.
Maataa Opare, the leader of the Power Queens, highlighted that FemPower is not just a concept but a commitment to building a lasting legacy of empowering women in STEM and engineering, focusing on expertise, capability, and diversity of thought.
The FemPower Outreach Program, a testament to ECG Power Queens’ commitment to gender diversity, will play an essential role in empowering women within the Electricity Company of Ghana to assume leadership roles and contribute meaningfully to the growth and success of the organization.
