The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has initiated a comprehensive meter replacement project in the Tema.
The project, led by the Tema Regional Office, aims to replace outdated prepaid meters with state-of-the-art smart prepaid meters.
The new meters, as explained by Sakyiwaa Mensah, the Tema Regional Public Relations Officer, operate remotely without the need for intermediary cards.
The replacement exercise targets customers in the Tema Metropolis, Prampram, Afienya, Nungua, and Ashaiman areas who currently use prepaid meters requiring card-based credit loading.
Ms Mensah emphasized that the transition to smart prepaid meters comes at no cost to the customers, even if it involves re-routing.
Nii Kwei Codjoe, the Marketing Officer for ECG in the Tema Region, urged customers to remain vigilant against potential fraud, cautioning them against making payments in the field.
He emphasized the company’s shift to a cashless system, urging all transactions to be conducted digitally.
The implementation of smart prepaid meters is expected to enhance customer convenience by eliminating the need for physical cards, ultimately ushering in a more seamless and technologically advanced energy consumption experience for the residents in the specified areas.
