Botswana Government has unveiled its new initiative, the Temo Letlotlo Programme.
This program is aimed at enhancing food security and self-sufficiency among farmers.
The program mandates that all Level 2 Micro Scale Farmers participating in it must make a compulsory donation of one 50kg bag of grain for every hectare they receive subsidies for, contributing to the Strategic Grain Reserve (SGR).
This initiative, which commences during the upcoming 2024/25 planting season, is expected to bolster the agricultural sector’s self-reliance and foster a spirit of collective responsibility among Botswana’s farming community.
The Botswana Agricultural Marketing Board has been entrusted with the logistical operations for collecting these grain donations.
