Nigeria’s energy sector, President Bola Tinubu has officially appointed Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha as the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN).
The announcement was made by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.
Mustapha Abdullahi is a prominent figure in the energy and space technology fields. He has over a decade worth of experience from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
He also comes with an impresive academic background. Dr. Abdullahi recently achieved his Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, with a focus on Renewable Energy, and followed it up with a Post-Doctoral Fellowship as a Research Associate at the prestigious University of Manchester.
Born in Kano and hailing from Katsina State in Northern Nigeria, Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha’s journey to this prominent role is marked by his dedication to academia.
He commenced his career as a pupil pharmacist at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in 1974. Over the years, he climbed the ranks, becoming a full Professor of Medicinal Chemistry in 1993.
In 2010, he assumed the position of Vice Chancellor at Ahmadu Bello University, following prior leadership roles in the academic sphere.
His impressive academic journey and accomplishments have now culminated in the pivotal role of heading the Energy Commission of Nigeria, promising to be a game-changer in the nation’s energy landscape.
Citizens are therefore expectant that his new appointment will bring about a significant improvement in the current state of the Commission.
He is therefore expected to play a pivotal role in the government’s vigorous efforts to diversify the nation’s energy sources, aiming to industrialize every part of the country and liberate every citizen from the clutches of energy poverty.
