The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, has tendered her resignation with immediate effect in response to recent theft allegations involving her residence.
In her resignation letter addressed to the President, she expressed her desire to step down to prevent the matter from becoming a distraction to the government’s crucial work.
The allegations surfaced on social and traditional media, claiming that substantial sums of foreign currencies and millions of Ghana cedis were stolen from her home.
Mrs. Dapaah firmly asserted that the figures circulating in the media did not accurately represent what she and her husband reported to the Police.
However, she stated her intention to cooperate fully with state agencies to clear her name, confident that she would be exonerated from all the accusations.
Earlier, in a press statement, Mrs. Dapaah pointed out inconsistencies between the public discussions and the original complaint on the matter.
The theft allegations revolve around two house helps working for the Minister and her husband, who are now facing charges in an Accra Circuit Court.
The accused individuals, Patience Botwe and Sarah Agyei, are alleged to have stolen personal effects and valuables worth millions of cedis from the Minister’s residence between July and October 2022.
Additionally, three other individuals, including Botwe’s current and former boyfriends and her father, are facing charges for their alleged involvement in the crime.
