Bola Tinubu, the Nigerian President, has called for enhanced collaboration with the United States in the pursuit of renewable energy and clean energy sources.
During a meeting with Ambassador Geoffrey Praytt, the United States Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources, Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s role as an oil-producing country and the significance of fossil fuel revenue for national economic development.
He appealed for a balanced approach between fossil fuels and green energy, highlighting the challenge of poverty in Africa. Tinubu also urged the United States to support Nigeria in protecting its democracy and addressing its energy diversification needs.
Ambassador Praytt on his part praised Nigeria’s efforts to reduce the impact of fossil fuels and expressed the United States’ support for Nigeria’s renewable energy initiatives. The meeting involved discussions on access to modern technology, curbing emissions, and the collaboration between Nigerian energy institutions and the United States Department of Energy.
