The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, departed from Ghana on May 14, 2023, on a significant state visit to the Republic of Guinea-Bissau.
This visit comes in response to an invitation extended by His Excellency Umaru Sissoco Embalo, the President of Guinea-Bissau and Chairperson of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS.
The primary objective of President Akufo-Addo’s visit is to further deepen the already robust relationship between the two nations and explore potential areas of cooperation that would be mutually beneficial.
During his time in Guinea-Bissau, President Akufo-Addo will engage in bilateral discussions with President Embalo, aiming to strengthen diplomatic ties and foster closer collaboration between Ghana and Guinea-Bissau. Furthermore, he will be honored with the prestigious Amilcar Cabral Medal, the highest national distinction awarded by Guinea-Bissau.
In addition to his official engagements, President Akufo-Addo is scheduled to deliver a lecture at the esteemed Law Faculty of the University of Amilcar Cabral. This lecture is anticipated to provide insights on governance, leadership, and the promotion of sustainable development.
The President will also take the opportunity to interact with the contingent of Ghanaian soldiers stationed in Bissau, who are an integral part of the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission. This engagement will enable President Akufo-Addo to express his gratitude for their service and reaffirm Ghana’s commitment to regional peace and stability.
