The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Kenya has launched the Africa Climate Summit and Africa Climate Week at the Secretariat Office in Nairobi.
Under the theme “Africa Together for Bold, Innovative, and Resourced Climate Action”, the event, which is slated to hold from 4th to 8th of September, 2023 marks the beginning of the journey towards the inaugural Africa Climate Summit.
Presiding over the official opening of the Secretariat Office for the Africa Climate Summit and Africa Climate Week, Cabinet Secretary Hon Soipan Tuya addressed the media on the status of preparations for the inaugural Heads of State and Government meeting.
She said “The Africa Climate Summit 2023 is an important regional platform that seeks to address the climate change challenges facing the African continent. Based on this, the summit aims to promote partnerships, showcase innovative solutions, mobilize financial resources, and strengthen the capacity of African countries to adapt and mitigate the impact of climate change. It also aims at providing a unique opportunity for stakeholders to come together to discuss, collaborate and act on climate change in Africa.”
“Therefore, the twin event which entails Africa Climate Summit and Africa Climate Week will bring to Nairobi over 10,000 delegates including Heads of State and Government and their delegations; representatives of UN agencies and other multilateral institutions; civil society entities; and a host of other interest groups” she added
Hon Soipan Tuya, in her speech highlighted that the Africa Climate Summit and Africa Climate Week will be held concurrently this year at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi City County.
Other speakers who were present at the unveiling of the Secretariat Office were Ole Thonke, Ambassador of Denmark to Kenya, UN Resident Coordinator in Kenya Stephen Jackson, Africa Union’s Director Mr Nyambe Nyambe, and a host of others as well as several stakeholders.
This year’s Africa Climate Summit will be co-hosted by the Government of Kenya and the African Union Commission.
