The Ministry of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment has indicated that its Deputy Minister, Makhotso Sotyu will officiate the 2nd Local Government Environment Indaba in collaboration South African Local Government Association (SALGA) and in close cooperation with the Department of Corporative Governance and Traditional Affairs, from 23-24 March 2023, at the Radisson Hotel and Convention Centre, Kempton Park.
The 2nd Local Government Indaba seeks to create a platform of engagement between environmental sector and local government sector, in trying to identify key challenges and gaps that affects municipalities performance about environmental functions planning and management in all 3 spheres of government.
The theme for the Local Government Environment Indaba is “Working Towards Local Environmental Sustainability” which is in line with the Local Government Support Strategy theme. The discussions will be centralised around the environmental roles and responsibilities of the municipalities and current best practises in line with the relevant acts, National Development Plan, the Outcome 10 service delivery agreements, and the Local Government Support Strategy.
