Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir accompanied by Principal Secretary for Energy, Alex Wachira has inspected the construction of a Geothermal Power plant in Menengai constructed by Sosian Energy.
The project aims to establish a line and substations to evacuate the initial 35MW power generated from the Menengai Geothermal Field.
During the tour of the facility,The CS explained that there was a need to reduce the pressure on hydroelectric power to help lower the cost of power.
The CS further met with OrPower and Qlobleg who were also awarded contracts to develop 35MW each from the Menegai Geothermal field.
He urged the two to start the necessary development of the generation plants.
