Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Hon. Abdulai Abanga, has admonish local players in the Construction Industry to build their capacities to attract highly skilled staff and offer world-class customer services to compete favourably with international firms while ensuring value for money in project delivery.
The Binduri lawmaker made this known at the 2021 National Infrastructural Summit, which was under the theme “Creating Competitive Collaborative and Innovative Business Governance for the Construction Industry of Ghana”.
The deputy minister indicated that the government has undertaken several reforms geared towards creating an enabling environment for the participation of the private sector in infrastructure delivery in the country. Mentioning the establishment of the National Development Bank, enactment of the Public-Private Partnership Act, 2020 (Act 1039) and the launching of the Ghana Building Code in 2018.
Given the capital-intensive nature of the infrastructural development, Hon. Abanga said that embarking on infrastructural projects calls for the best talents one can find to guarantee the best possible outcomes. Adding that it would also require deploying the best human resource management techniques to retain and enhance their delivery capacities.
With this, he hinted that the construction sector can lead the job creation agenda of the government while taking advantage of the opportunities the infrastructure deficit presents.
The National Infrastructure Summit, which is under the auspices of the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry brought together key players from the construction industry to deliberate and proffer solutions on issues affecting infrastructural developments of national interest.
