The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has launched the Ekiti State edition of its ongoing Data Protection Officers (DPOs) training and certification programme, extending the initiative beyond Abuja and Lagos as part of its nationwide capacity-building drive.
Providing an overview of the programme, the National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, represented by the Head of Research and Development, Dr Tolu Pius Fadipe reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to addressing the global shortage of Data Protection Officers by developing a pool of highly skilled and globally competitive professionals.
Fadipe emphasised that the initiative aligns with broader national efforts to create employment opportunities for Nigerian youths while positioning the country as a leading hub for data protection expertise within the global digital economy.

“The training programme is designed to meet international standards,” she stated, urging participants to remain focused and committed throughout the certification process.
In his welcome remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for the Ekiti State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, Chief Kayode Fasae, underscored the significance of the programme in equipping young people with in-demand digital skills.

He noted that the initiative would play a critical role in empowering Ekiti youths, enhancing their employability, and contributing to the state’s economic growth.
The Ekiti training marks another milestone in the NDPC’s nationwide effort to strengthen data protection capacity and deepen Nigeria’s digital economy through strategic human capital development.
