Postmaster-General and CEO of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), Tola Odeyemi, hosted a high-level strategic meeting with officials from the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy and representatives of the Team Europe Initiative, underscoring NIPOST’s pivotal position in advancing Nigeria’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and fostering a more integrated national data ecosystem.
The discussions centered on leveraging NIPOST’s vast nationwide network of postal outlets as key access points for essential digital services. This includes supporting identity verification processes, expanding financial inclusion efforts, and improving the delivery of public services to even the most remote communities.

A major focus was the alignment with Nigeria’s ongoing transition to a National Digital Postcode System—a GIS-enabled alphanumeric framework recently approved by the Federal Executive Council. This reform is expected to revolutionize addressing accuracy, streamline logistics operations, boost e-commerce efficiency, and enhance emergency response capabilities across the country.
The engagement also highlighted NIPOST’s growing logistics capabilities and the strategic imperative of integrating its systems into the proposed National Data Exchange Layer (DXL). Such interoperability would enable seamless data sharing and collaboration across various government platforms, creating a more cohesive and efficient digital ecosystem.

Participants expressed a strong shared commitment to ongoing technical collaboration, continuous capacity building for staff, and the standardization of data systems to ensure full alignment with Nigeria’s broader national digital frameworks and priorities.
“This engagement reinforces NIPOST’s strategic position in building a more connected, efficient, and inclusive public service ecosystem,” said Ms. Odeyemi. “By positioning our extensive infrastructure at the heart of digital service delivery, we are not only modernizing postal operations but also contributing meaningfully to financial inclusion, identity management, and equitable access to government services nationwide.”
The meeting aligns with wider government efforts, including partnerships under the EU Digital Economy Package and initiatives like Project BRIDGE, aimed at accelerating Nigeria’s digital transformation through international collaboration and inclusive infrastructure development.
