President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Idris Adamu (Rtd), a seasoned financial expert and senior officer of the Nigerian Air Force from Borno State, as the new Chairman of the Military Pensions Board (MPB).
The appointment, announced by the Presidency, forms part of the administration’s deliberate efforts to enhance transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency in the administration of pensions and welfare benefits for Nigeria’s military veterans.
Air Vice Marshal Adamu brings decades of distinguished service and deep financial management experience to the role. His career highlights include serving as Directing Staff at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Deputy Director of Budget at the Defence Intelligence Agency, Principal Staff Officer (Finance) at the Air Warfare Centre, and Commandant of the 081 Pay and Accounting Group.

He later rose to become the Director of Finance at the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters and the Managing Director of Nigerian Air Force Investment Limited (NAFIL) and the NAFIL Group of Companies. The retired senior officer also served as Directing Staff at the prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru.
In a charge to the new Chairman, President Tinubu directed AVM Adamu to deploy his extensive financial expertise and leadership experience to significantly improve the welfare of retired military personnel while upholding the highest standards of integrity and patriotism.
The Military Pensions Board is responsible for the administration of pensions and gratuities for retired personnel of the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, and other paramilitary services. The appointment is expected to strengthen governance and service delivery within the board as the government continues reforms across the defence and security sector.
