In a landmark event hailed as a triumph for land tenure security, National Land Commission (NLC) CEO Kabale Tache joined Kajiado Governor Joseph Jama Ole Lenku to personally issue thousands of lease certificates and allotment letters to residents.
The ceremony, described as historic by officials, directly empowers families by providing the formal documents essential for securing their homes, enabling economic activity, and unlocking development opportunities. This initiative marks a significant stride in formalizing land ownership for communities in the region.
The breakthrough was made possible by an unprecedented collaborative effort between the County Government of Kajiado and the NLC. The county processed the foundational allotment letters, which were then swiftly converted into official leases by the Commission.

This partnership yielded a record-breaking result: the NLC processed over 8,000 allotment letters—the highest number ever handled in a single initiative. This massive undertaking provides a substantial boost to land tenure security and is a key pillar in advancing the national Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

In a parallel achievement, the Commission also completed the reservation of 124 public land parcels for critical institutions, including schools, hospitals, and utilities, safeguarding community assets for future generations.

Addressing attendees, CEO Tache lauded Governor Ole Lenku’s committed leadership and the potent synergy between county and national governments. “This partnership stands as a powerful model of what can be achieved through cooperation. I encourage other counties to emulate this exemplary framework,” stated Tache.

She was accompanied by Dr. Samuel Nthuni, the NLC Director of Land Administration and Management, underscoring the technical and administrative commitment behind the success.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment from both levels of government to continue streamlining land processes, highlighting a shared vision of using secure land rights as a cornerstone for sustainable development and economic empowerment.
