Public Service and Administration Deputy Minister, Ms Pinky Kekana, will conduct an unannounced visit to evaluate and monitor the progress of the 7th Administration’s implementation of the District Development Model (DDM) in Mangaung. As the National DDM Champion for the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, Kekana will assess frontline service points to ensure effective service delivery.
The DDM, adopted in August 2019 by the President’s Coordinating Council, is a strategic planning tool designed to address service delivery challenges by fostering an integrated approach to governance. It brings all spheres of government closer to communities at the district level. Last month, Deputy Minister Kekana joined Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s Clean Cities and Towns Campaign in the provincial capital, reinforcing the government’s commitment to improving local services.
Kekana will be accompanied by local and provincial government leaders during this coordinated three-sphere planning effort, aimed at tackling the collapse of service delivery through the DDM. The model emphasizes thorough planning, coordination, collaboration, and monitoring to maximize value for public spending and protect vulnerable populations.
The oversight visit seeks to identify and resolve any obstacles hindering quality service delivery, aligning with the goals of Integrated Public Service Month. This month, the Department of Public Service and Administration is conducting nationwide assessments of facilities and public servant conduct to ensure adherence to the Batho Pele Principles and the Public Service Charter. September is annually dedicated to recognizing public servants who serve citizens with pride.
