The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited has announced the appointment of Maryamu Idris as Nigeria’s National Representative to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
The appointment, celebrated with a vibrant announcement on Thursday, September 18, 2025, marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s energy leadership on the global stage.
Idris, who currently serves as the Managing Director of NNPC Trading Limited, brings a wealth of experience to her new dual role. She will also maintain her distinguished position as Nigeria’s OPEC National Representative, where she is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping both national and international energy strategies.
In her capacity as Nigeria’s OPEC representative, Idris will act as the country’s principal technical liaison with the organization, serving on the OPEC Economic Commission Board (ECB). Her contributions to key technical deliberations and policy recommendations will involve close collaboration with the OPEC Governor, National Stakeholders upstream as NNPC Limited, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.
The appointment ensures that Nigeria’s energy interests are effectively represented and aligned with broader OPEC objectives. Idris’s extensive experience in the energy sector includes leading pricing and evaluation efforts within NNPC’s Crude Oil Marketing Division and serving as a Technical Advisor to Nigeria’s OPEC Delegation.
Idris has also played a foundational role in Nigeria’s engagement with the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) and contributed to Oil Sector Reforms through her work with the Bureau of Public Enterprises and the Oil and Gas Implementation Committee (OGIC).
