The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) is on track to make four significant Final Investment Decisions (FIDs) before the end of 2025, signaling a major push to deepen investments in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
This was disclosed in the company’s “Monthly Report Summary for April 2025,” published via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday, June 12.
According to the report, the four FID-bound projects are the Ntokon Development Project (OML 102), the Crude Oil Production Expansion Project (OML 29), Gas Development Projects (OMLs 30 and 42), and the Brass Fertilizer Project.
These initiatives form part of NNPC Ltd’s broader strategy to improve production efficiency, boost revenue, and diversify Nigeria’s energy portfolio. In particular, the Brass Fertilizer Project is expected to significantly reduce fertilizer imports, meet rising domestic demand, and support agricultural productivity.
Crude oil and condensate production in April stood at 1.61 million barrels per day (mmbopd), reflecting a slight decline from 1.67 mmbopd in January. Conversely, natural gas production increased to 7,354 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d), up from 7,120 mmscf/d in February.
NNPC Ltd posted a total revenue of N5.89 trillion for the month of April, with a profit after tax of N748 billion. Statutory payments for Q1 2025 amounted to N4.225 trillion.
The report noted key technical progress on two major gas pipeline projects — the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) and the Obiafu–Obrikom–Oben (OB3) pipelines. Challenges related to River Niger crossings have now been addressed, with OB3 reported to be 95% complete and AKK at 70%.
Pipeline availability across upstream operations remained strong at 97%, pointing to improved infrastructure reliability. Meanwhile, turnaround maintenance (TAM) was concluded in April for oil mining leases including OMLs 18, 58, 118, and 133. Assessments are also ongoing across the Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna refining facilities.
The company also showcased its community development efforts through the NNPC Foundation. Under its Business Empowerment Initiative in partnership with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), 531 Corps members received solar power starter packs.
In the tech and creative sectors, 83 ICT trainees and 170 creative talents were provided with business starter kits. On the healthcare front, the company facilitated 2,005 cataract surgeries and rehabilitated three hospital wards at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi.
NNPC Ltd clarified that all crude oil and gas production figures in the report are provisional and unaudited. The data represents only NNPC Limited’s operations and does not include figures from independent operators regulated by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
