The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has concluded its four-day Technical Mission on Botswana’s State Safety Project (SSP).
The organisation commended the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB) and the government for their dedication to enhancing aviation safety.
The mission, which focused on assessing the country’s compliance with international safety standards, was marked by a preliminary report that recognized Botswana’s progress in implementing the SSP, an integrated framework of laws, regulations, and processes designed to proactively manage aviation safety.
The ICAO team offered several recommendations to further strengthen Botswana’s aviation safety framework, focusing on State Safety Policy Objectives, State Safety Risk Management, State Safety Assurance, and State Safety Promotion.
The report highlighted the importance of robust primary aviation legislation, the need for well-supported authorities, and the provision of sufficient qualified personnel and financial resources.
ICAO assured Botswana of continued technical support as needed, reinforcing the country’s commitment to maintaining high standards in aviation safety.
