Nigeria has been rated 71% in digital transformation readiness by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
This assessment evaluates the country’s legal, policy, and governance frameworks in preparation for achieving an advanced state of digital transformation readiness, known as G5.
The report, compiled by the ITU and the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), was unveiled by Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, in Abuja on Monday.
According to the report titled “Collaborative Regulation: Accelerating Nigeria’s Digital Transformation,” Nigeria is among the top seven African countries in the 5G Readiness Index, reflecting its preparedness to deploy and adopt mass-market 5G networks.
ITU’s Kagwira Nkonge, who presented the report, highlighted that it serves as a case study for collaborative regulation review, aimed at assessing and supporting Nigeria’s transition towards digital governance, evidence-based policymaking, and agile regulation in the digital economy.
The ITU’s benchmark for Advanced State of Readiness includes national collaborative governance, policy design principles, a digital development toolbox, and a digital economic policy agenda.
