The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has been officially recognize by the International Water Association (IWA) for its outstanding Climate Smart Utilities application submitted to the 2023 IWA Recognition Programme.
This prestigious recognition is part of the 2023 Recognition Programme, which aims to spotlight the efforts of water and sanitation utilities operating in challenging conditions to address climate change.
The initiative, supported by AfWASA, seeks to applaud innovative utilities in low- and middle-income countries leading the way in creating a low-carbon water and sanitation sector.
The Ghana Water Company’s exceptional efforts have earned it a place among the 10 outstanding applications recognized by the IWA jury.
The 2023 Recognition Programme attracted 35 applications from 18 low- and middle-income countries, showcasing the broad outreach of the initiative. Out of the 20 applications recognized as Climate Smart, the Ghana Water Company’s submission stood out for its inspiring and ambitious actions within its local context.
The company’s dedication to climate-smart solutions has not only earned it recognition but also emphasizes the importance of global collaboration in addressing climate challenges in the water and sanitation sector.
Each application underwent a rigorous review process by three expert, independent jury members to determine its soundness and worthiness to be shared with the IWA community.
