The Nigerian Customs Agency has disclosed the successful interception of contraband valued at over N900 million between August and October 2023.
According to a statement by Mailafiya Magaji, the agency’s Public Relations Officer, the seizures included 17 sacks containing 1,199 loaves of Cannabis Sativa (Marijuana) totaling 663.5kg, 66,000 capsules of 225mg Tramadol, and 1,257 sacks of foreign parboiled rice.
Operations were carried out in various states, with arrests made along the Moba waterways and Sanki Beach Axis in August and October.
The Western Marine Command (WMC) of customs also seized 103 sacks of Marijuana, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to safeguarding national security and contributing to Nigeria’s overall progress.
The Nigerian Customs Agency has reported a significant revenue generation of over N11 billion within the three-month period from August to October 2023.
Ben Oramalugo, the Customs Area Controller, attributed this surge to the agency’s dedication to trade facilitation, the enforcement of Customs laws, and the creation of a conducive business environment.
The revenue, totaling N11,679,732,583.91, was remitted to the federal government’s account.
Oramalugo highlighted the role of credible intelligence sharing and effective collaboration among various units of the Nigeria Customs Service in Oyo and Osun States, including the Federal Operations Unit and Border Drill, in achieving these remarkable results.
