President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi of Egypt inaugurated Wednesday via video-conferencing Kom Hamada Hospital and the bone marrow transplant (BMT) department at Mawasi University Hospital, both at Beheira, as well as Sadat bridges and tunnel in Alexandria.
Kom Hamada Hospital spans over 3,100 square meters and has cost LE450 million. As for the BMT department at Mawasi University Hospital, it consists of seven marrow transplant units, a stem cell separation unit, and a laboratory for preserving and freezing cells.
The department’s equipment was manufactured in Germany, and it has the capacity of accommodating 60-70 marrow transplant cases per year. The service is offered free of charge to patients in Alexandria, Matrouh, and Kafr Al Sheikh.
The cost of one marrow transplant operation is around LE100, 000, if autologous, and LE150, 000, if allogeneic.
