Vice President Dr. Philip Mpango is set to officiate the upcoming Mwananchi Thought Leadership Forum, organized by Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL), to address critical issues surrounding climate change.
The forum, expected to attract between 200 and 300 attendees, will focus on the theme “Exploring Tanzanian Responses and Solutions.”
The event aims to foster discussions on environmental concerns and innovative approaches to effectively tackle climate change.
Bakari Machumu, the Managing Director of MCL, emphasized that this forum builds upon the company’s previous efforts to bring together various stakeholders, including Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and academics.
The objective is to enhance understanding and garner support for initiatives that yield tangible results in environmental preservation.
The conference coincides with the upcoming World Environment Day on June 5 and follows the success of the inaugural conference held at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) five months ago.
Machumu stressed the importance of consistent efforts in bringing about change, stating, “You can’t always get results by doing something different but by doing the same thing regularly until you reach a point where the people who it affects or causes harm can put it in their minds, and that’s when change can happen.”
The discussions at the conference will encompass a wide range of topics, including the impact of environmental changes on Tanzania’s development, the nexus between the environment and innovation, and the crucial link between the environment and food availability.
Participants will also explore strategies to protect water sources and other environmental resources, as well as how environmental conservation can contribute to reliable energy production.
With a focus on raising awareness and promoting preventive measures against environmental damage, the conference aims to highlight successful approaches from other regions that can be adopted to mitigate the effects of environmental degradation. By fostering collaboration and sharing knowledge, the event strives to inspire positive action in safeguarding Tanzania’s environment for future generations.
