Lagos Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), Executive Chairman, Mr Ayodele Subair has emerged Africa Public Sector Magazine’s “CEO of the Week” for the beginning of the Month of June 6th to 11th, 2022 rankings.
The highly-rated CEO of the Week is a weekly accreditation of Top performing CEOs of Public institutions, MDAs of African governments, following their achievements and portfolios amongst other criteria for the best in performances and developments.
Hamzat Ayodele Subair the Tax mega man, the boss, a dogged and a Go getter, who has set the pace for digital adoption in the Tax payment system and in its operations. The LIRS has been at the forefront of delivery better service delivery for its tax payers and has transformed as it leverages technology to boost revenue generation for the state, to drive economic growth and also enhance ease of doing business in Lagos State.
Going through his educational background, he obtained his first degree as a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Metropolitan University of Manchester-Formerly Manchester Polytechnic, England in 1982. He also obtained a Masters degree in Business Administration at the University of Lagos in 1995.
Raising through his career, Mr Hamzat started his professional career at the international firm of Price Waterhouse (Chartered Accountants) in 1982.
In 1987 he joined Hamzat Subair, Folami & Co Chartered Accountants as a Manager. The LIRS Top man is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), and Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. He is also an Associate of the Business Recovery & Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria (BRIPAN). He served as a pioneer Director of the Lagos State Lotteries Board, and the Board of various Government and Non-Government Institutions, Firms and Associations. Mr. Hamzat Ayodele Subair is a happy looking man, with his wife and blessed with children.
Recognition and Milestone
- Having achieved several success stories and transformation on returns and tax payers, the governor reappointed him to continue his good works for the people of Lagos state. The Agency has always identify with the vision of the state, working with the vision of the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
- In 2021, LIRS succeeded with a total of N427 billion approximately, and in 2020, they did about N355 billion during Covid-19. LIRS was able to perform 102 per cent of budget in 2020 and in 2021, making about N427 billion approximately.
- Also, in 2022, the agency continued to innovate and push up numbers. In January 2022, they did N40.5 billion approximately and in February, they made about N39 billion approximately.
- Recently, The Joint Tax Board awarded a well-deserved recognition to the Lagos Internal Revenue Service and its Executive Chairman, Mr Ayodele Subair, for contributing towards the actualisation of the JTB’s vision.
