National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has formally assumed control of the Nigeria Government Enterprise Architecture (NGEA) infrastructure, marking a major milestone in the country’s digital governance and public sector transformation agenda.
The handover ceremony, held in Abuja, signals a new phase in Nigeria’s e-government evolution, underpinned by a strategic partnership between NITDA and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), a key development partner from the Republic of Korea.
The NGEA initiative forms a central pillar of Nigeria’s e-Government Masterplan 2.0 (Ne-GMP 2.0), providing a comprehensive framework to guide strategic IT investments and the management of critical information resources across government institutions. It is designed to ensure that digital infrastructure and services are aligned with national priorities while improving efficiency in resource allocation.

With the platform now operational, government systems are expected to transition toward greater integration, enabling seamless data exchange and interoperability across ministries, departments, and agencies. This is anticipated to strengthen risk management, eliminate duplication of digital initiatives, and ensure that policy objectives are translated into actionable and measurable outcomes.
Over the past two and a half years, Nigerian technical experts and Korean partners have jointly developed a unified enterprise architecture framework, established core reference models, and implemented pilot programmes across key government institutions. These include the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and NITDA.

Officials at the event described the NGEA not merely as a digital infrastructure, but as a transformational shift in governance philosophy.
“The NGEA represents a move away from fragmented and siloed digital initiatives toward a coordinated, citizen-centric government ecosystem that delivers real value to Nigerians.”
The infrastructure is hosted by Galaxy Backbone Limited, providing a secure and resilient backbone for nationwide deployment.
Looking ahead, NITDA reaffirmed its commitment to working with stakeholders across the public sector to ensure the effective operationalisation, scalability, and long-term sustainability of the platform.
“We will continue to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders to drive adoption and ensure that the NGEA delivers on its promise of smarter governance and improved public service delivery.”
The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE) will provide overarching policy direction and strategic leadership to support nationwide implementation, positioning the NGEA as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s digital economy ambitions.
