The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, has received the Executive Director of the Data Protection Commission of Ghana, Dr Arnold Kavaarpuo, on a courtesy visit to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
During the visit, Dr Olatunji commended Dr Kavaarpuo for his work in advancing data protection and privacy in Ghana. He emphasised the growing working relationship between the data protection authorities of both countries, while highlighting global challenges in the sector, including funding constraints and low awareness levels. He also outlined Nigeria’s ongoing initiatives aimed at addressing these issues and encouraged Ghana to actively participate in the Network of African Data Protection Authorities (NADPA) and the Global Privacy Assembly (GPA).

In his remarks, Dr Kavaarpuo praised Dr Olatunji for his leadership at the NDPC and his contributions at the level of NADPA. He noted that while data protection and privacy efforts began long ago in Ghana, there remains significant opportunity for growth, particularly through learning from Nigeria’s experience.

He added that Ghana is intensifying efforts to raise awareness, strengthen institutional frameworks, and enhance capacity building to ensure competence in data protection and privacy.
Both leaders exchanged ideas on data governance and discussed strategies for managing Africa’s unique challenges. They reaffirmed the importance of collaboration and cooperation, committing to further strengthen their bilateral relationship in advancing data protection across the continent.
