Kenya’s technical education sector is at an inflection point, and the leaders navigating it are being asked to do far more than administer institutions. They are being asked to reshape a nation’s relationship with skilled work. Mrs. Lucy Mukiri Anampiu, Chief Principal of PC Kinyanjui Technical Training Institute, has answered that call with uncommon clarity.
Across a career defined by institutional transformation and an unrelenting belief in the dignity of technical education, she has positioned herself not merely as an administrator, but as one of the most consequential architects of Kenya’s TVET future, building the kind of institution that does not simply respond to economic change, but anticipates it
As Chief Principal of PCKTTI, Mrs. Anampiu occupies a pivotal position in Kenya’s skills development landscape, leading one of the country’s prominent technical training institutions. Her leadership philosophy is anchored on the modernization of vocational education and the creation of a training system that produces industry-ready graduates capable of contributing directly to national productivity, technological innovation, and economic growth. She has consistently advocated for the repositioning of TVET education as a respected and strategic pathway rather than a secondary educational option.
Mrs. Anampiu’s career in education leadership reflects years of dedicated service in strengthening technical training institutions across the country. Before assuming her current role, she served as Principal of Mitunguu Technical Training Institute, where she played a transformative role in institutional restructuring and academic advancement. Under her administration, the institute experienced significant growth in student enrollment, at one point accommodating approximately 3,000 trainees, marking a major turnaround from its earlier operational scale.
Her tenure at Mitunguu TTI was defined by strong governance, academic expansion, and community-centered leadership. She spearheaded land acquisition initiatives that secured space for future institutional development and oversaw the construction of modern training infrastructure designed to support competency-based technical training. These development projects strengthened the institute’s capacity to deliver practical education while preparing the foundation for its long-term aspiration of becoming a national polytechnic.
Mrs. Anampiu also championed innovation-driven learning by promoting research exhibitions, robotics and technology showcases, and applied skills competitions that allowed students to demonstrate technical competence in engineering, information technology, fashion design, and other specialized disciplines. These initiatives enhanced the institution’s academic reputation and created platforms for student creativity and industry engagement.
Her leadership was widely appreciated by the student community, a sentiment reflected when learners reportedly staged demonstrations expressing concern over her transfer from Mitunguu TTI. The rare display of student solidarity underscored the trust, mentorship, and developmental impact she had cultivated within the institution.
In her current role at PCKTTI, Mrs. Anampiu continues to drive strategic reforms aimed at strengthening Kenya’s TVET ecosystem. She has prioritized expanding access to technical education by promoting enrollment growth, improving institutional governance frameworks, and supporting the integration of competency-based education models that align training outcomes with labour market demands. Her administration emphasizes collaboration with industry partners to ensure students acquire practical experience and skills relevant to emerging economic sectors.
Her outstanding contributions to education were nationally recognized in 2025 when she was honoured with the prestigious Head of State Commendation by the Office of the President of Kenya. The award celebrated her leadership excellence, institutional transformation efforts, and dedication to advancing quality education in Kenya.
Today, Mrs. Anampiu’s legacy is defined by thousands of young people who have gained access to quality technical training under her leadership. Her vision is anchored on creating a future where skills are highly valued, opportunities are accessible, and technical education serves as a catalyst for social and economic mobility.
