Invest Kenya, the national investment promotion agency, has officially unveiled its inaugural Invest Kenya Golf Tournament (IKGT), a landmark event designed to blend sport, business diplomacy, and economic promotion.
The tournament is scheduled for March 27, 2026, at the prestigious Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi, coinciding with the final day of the Kenya International Investment Conference (KIICO) 2026. It will serve as a strategic side event to the conference, creating a unique platform where competition on the greens fosters high-level networking, partnerships, and national branding.
The launch event was attended by key dignitaries, including Principal Secretary Abubakar Hassan (representing relevant ministries), Jackson Indakwa (on behalf of the Principal Secretary for Sports), Florence Wangui and James Muoki (Board Members of Invest Kenya), John Mwendwa (CEO of Invest Kenya), Dennis Murithi (or Mwirigi, Chairperson of Muthaiga Golf Club), and representatives from the broader golf community.

Speaking at the launch, officials emphasized the government’s intentional approach to elevating sport as a vital economic driver. “As Government, we are deliberate in positioning sport as a serious economic sector—one that contributes meaningfully to job creation, enterprise development, innovation, and international visibility,” a statement from Invest Kenya highlighted. The IKGT exemplifies successful collaboration between government, the private sector, and development partners.

The tournament will adopt the popular Stableford format and is anticipated to draw around 260 players (with recent reports confirming over 200 already registered), including local and international corporate executives, investors, and selected professional golfers from Kenya’s expanding golf scene. Absa Bank has been named the main sponsor for this debut edition.
Organizers view the event as more than just a sporting occasion—it’s a deliberate strategy to harness golf’s global appeal for economic impact. “This tournament demonstrates what can be achieved through strong collaboration… and reinforces Kenya’s position as one of Africa’s leading golf destinations,” noted Dennis Mwirigi, Chairman of Muthaiga Golf Club.
The draws for the tournament are expected early next month, with plans to establish IKGT as an annual fixture to further strengthen Kenya’s golf calendar and support its emergence as a premier destination for major sporting and investment events.
