Olatunji Rilwan Disu, widely known as Tunji Disu, has assumed the role of Acting Inspector-General of Police following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval on February 24, 2026. The appointment comes after the resignation of his predecessor, Kayode Egbetokun, who cited pressing family considerations.
From Operational Frontlines to National Command
For Disu, a 59-year-old Lagos-born career officer with over three decades of dedicated service since joining the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992, this marks the culmination of a distinguished path rooted in hands-on policing, intelligence operations, and strategic leadership.

Building Expertise Through Diverse Field Commands
Disu’s career is defined by progressive roles that honed his operational acumen. He served as Divisional Police Officer in locations across Ogun, Ondo, and Rivers States, tackling local crime challenges head-on. He commanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and anti-kidnapping units in Rivers State, and later led the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), advancing intelligence-led policing strategies. As Commander of the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) from 2015 to 2021, he rebranded officers as “The Good Guys” to foster positive community engagement and proactive crime prevention in Nigeria’s bustling commercial hub.
High-Profile Leadership in Key Jurisdictions
Elevating further, Disu served as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, overseeing law enforcement in politically and economically vital areas. He managed complex security dynamics, dismantled organized crime networks, and emphasized professional conduct. Most recently, as Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos, he coordinated investigations into sophisticated financial and economic crimes, drawing on his specialized training in small arms, cybercrime, forensics, and strategic leadership.
Global Exposure and Commitment to Professionalism
Disu’s international credentials include serving as contingent commander for Nigeria’s first African Union peacekeeping mission in Darfur in 2005. With expertise in intelligence-driven reforms and community-oriented approaches, he is poised to provide steady direction to the Nigeria Police Force during ongoing national security challenges. Pending formal consideration by the Nigeria Police Council and Senate confirmation for substantive appointment, Disu remains focused on enhancing institutional capacity, accountability, and operational resilience to fulfill the Force’s constitutional mandate.
A Vision for Strengthened Security Architecture
President Tinubu expressed confidence in Disu’s “experience, operational depth, and demonstrated leadership capacity” to guide the Force effectively. Disu steps into this critical role committed to intelligence-led initiatives, professional standards, and collaborative efforts to bolster Nigeria’s internal security framework for sustained national stability and public safety.
