The Customs Area Controller (CAC) in charge of the Cross River/Calabar Free Zone Command and Akwa Ibom, Comptroller Momodu Dauda, has paid a working visit to the Tinapa Free Zone, reaffirming the Nigeria Customs Service’s (NCS) commitment to trade facilitation, investment protection, and sustained stakeholder collaboration.
The visit, which took place on Monday, 12 January 2026, was aimed at providing first-hand insight into operational activities at the Tinapa Free Zone, assessing compliance with Customs laws and regulations, and strengthening the existing synergy between the NCS and Free Trade Zone operators.
Addressing stakeholders during the visit, Comptroller Momodu reassured them of the Service’s resolve to promote a conducive business environment while maintaining a firm stance against smuggling and other illegal economic activities. According to him, “facilitating trade, protecting investments and combating smuggling remain the Service’s core principles, and ensuring their execution is an obligation.”

He further pledged his dedication to advancing the vision and policy direction of the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, through effective dissemination and implementation of the CGC’s mandate across the command.

In her remarks, the General Manager of Tinapa Resort and Free Trade Zone, Dr Frances Ekom, expressed confidence in Tinapa’s revival, noting that its vision remains achievable despite a 15-year setback. She stated that “renewed stakeholder commitment is driving its comeback,” and commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its significant efforts and sustained engagement in repositioning Tinapa for greater success and economic impact.
Aligning with the Service’s strategic objectives, Comptroller Momodu assured stakeholders of continuous engagement, professionalism, and institutional support from the command. He emphasized that under his leadership, the command remains steadfast in revenue generation, trade facilitation, and border security, while contributing meaningfully to economic growth.
