President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye presided over the annual New Year’s greetings ceremony with the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Dakar on Monday at the Palace of the Republic, delivering a stark assessment of global challenges while reaffirming Senegal’s commitment to peace and international cooperation.
Addressing ambassadors, heads of mission, and representatives of international organizations, President Faye highlighted the “turbulence” shaping the current international order, including ongoing conflicts, persistent insecurity in the Sahel region, the impacts of climate change, and the erosion of multilateralism.

In response to these crises, the Senegalese leader underscored his country’s unwavering dedication to dialogue, consultation, and adherence to international law. He firmly rejected unilateral approaches or policies rooted in power imbalances, stating that Senegal opposes any “logic of unilateralism or domination based on the balance of power.”

These include a high-level preparatory meeting for the United Nations Water Conference, the 10th edition of the Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security in Africa, and the Youth Olympic Games — marking the first Olympic event ever held on African soil.
In closing, President Faye expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from Senegal’s international partners and reiterated the nation’s openness to collaborative efforts grounded in friendship, mutual respect, and solidarity. He extended warm wishes for peace, health, and success to the members of the Diplomatic Corps in fulfilling their missions
