Kenya Port Authority has successfully concluded its 26th Internal Quality Audit, a key exercise reinforcing its dedication to upholding the highest standards of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
The weeklong audit, which wrapped up this week, was hailed as a critical preparatory step for the upcoming external surveillance audit scheduled for February 2026.
Addressing staff at the closing meeting in the new conference room, the Managing Director, Captain William Ruto, commended the seamless coordination of the audit teams. He praised the ISO Internal Auditors, the Camara team, and all participants for their collective effort.

“This internal audit paves the way for each Division to conduct an in-depth analysis ahead of the second surveillance audit by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) early next year,” Captain Ruto stated. He assured staff of management’s “continual support” to ensure the effective implementation of required actions and commended employees for their “dedication, teamwork, and openness” during the process.

In a significant development, the Authority announced it is in the process of pursuing certification for two additional international standards: ISO 14001:2015 for Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and ISO 45001:2018 for Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems (OHSMS). This expansion underscores the Authority’s commitment to sustainable and safe operational practices.
The closing event was attended by a cross-section of the Authority’s senior leadership, including the General Manager for Internal Audit and Risk Assurance, Dr. Fred Oyugi; the Harbour Master & General Manager for Marine Operations, Capt. Patrick O. Ondenyi; and other departmental heads from operations, engineering, marketing, and communications.
