Uganda has officially secured the right to host the 2027 IFATCA Global Conference, a landmark event expected to draw 600 air traffic controllers from 132 countries to Kampala.

Speaking on behalf of Minister of Works and Transport Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, Ms. Olive Birungi Lumonya, Deputy Director General of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), confirmed the hosting during the three-day regional summit (November 3–5, 2025). Uganda clinched the bid at the IFATCA Global Conference in Abu Dhabi in May 2025, outpacing competing nations with a compelling vision for aviation safety and regional collaboration.

“Even in an era dominated by automation and advanced technology, people remain the heartbeat of aviation safety,” Ms. Lumonya told delegates, echoing this year’s regional theme: “Policy Leadership for a Safer Sky: Advancing Strategic Human Capital Development in Air Traffic Management.” She highlighted Uganda’s ongoing investments in training, modern air navigation systems, search and rescue capabilities, and cross-border partnerships.
“Uganda is enhancing its aviation infrastructure and fostering regional cooperation to ensure safer skies for all,” she added.
Gen. Katumba, a longtime patron of the Uganda Air Traffic Controllers’ Association (UGATCA), continues to mentor its members with expertise drawn from decades of leadership and governance. His support has been instrumental in positioning Uganda as a hub for aviation excellence in East Africa.
