The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has reaffirmed its dedication to revitalizing the nation’s downstream sector, emphasizing collaboration and sustainability as key drivers of efficiency.
Speaking at the opening of the 2025 OTL Africa Downstream Energy Week in Lagos, NNPC Ltd’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bayo Ojulari, outlined a vision for a transformed energy landscape.
Represented by Dr. Mumuni Dagazau, Executive Vice President of Downstream, Ojulari addressed the conference theme, “Energy Sustainability: Beyond Boundaries & Competition.” He stressed that competition alone is no longer sufficient to propel the sector forward.
“Operators must embrace collaboration, sustainability, and resilience as the new benchmarks for success,” he said, highlighting NNPC’s strategic push to enhance downstream infrastructure nationwide.

“NNPC is committed to deploying additional infrastructure across the oil and gas value chain while revamping existing assets,” Ojulari stated. “These assets will be accessible to partners for storage and transportation, fostering strategic alliances in the downstream sector.”
He pointed to the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and supportive policies, including fiscal incentives and transparent regulations, as catalysts for sector growth, driving investments in areas like Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), and mini-LNG projects.
The GCEO urged conference attendees—comprising policymakers, regulators, operators, and representatives from international organizations—to tackle challenges and seize opportunities to redefine the energy system. “We must forge cross-sector partnerships that transcend traditional competition and explore innovative business models and technologies that support decarbonization while driving economic value,” he said.
The OTL Africa Downstream Energy Week, a premier event for Africa’s midstream and downstream energy sectors, serves as a platform for stakeholders to align on sustainable and profitable strategies. As NNPC Ltd pushes for infrastructure upgrades and collaborative models, the conference underscores the need for new skill sets and investments to shape a resilient energy future.
