The Second Session of the Botswana-Namibia Bi-National Commission (BNC) opened in Windhoek on Monday, with both nations emphasizing the need for concrete results to strengthen their bilateral ties. The high-level meeting, a cornerstone of cooperation between the two countries, aims to advance diplomacy, economic collaboration, social affairs, defense, and security.
Botswana’s Permanent Secretary for International Relations, Thuso Ramodimoosi, set the tone by urging delegates to move beyond mere discussions. “The BNC should not be reduced to a talk show,” he said, stressing the importance of delivering tangible benefits for citizens. Reflecting on the inaugural session held in Botswana last year, Ramodimoosi called for a thorough review of past decisions and solutions to implementation challenges. He expressed hope that several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) would be finalized, underscoring the need to conclude negotiations to demonstrate shared commitment.

Ramodimoosi also highlighted the broader context, urging participants to align their efforts with regional and global priorities, including peace and security, industrialization, climate resilience, food security, and energy transition. “Our deliberations must contribute meaningfully to regional integration and international peace,” he said, emphasizing outcomes that directly impact citizens and the broader region.
Namibia’s Executive Director of the Ministry of International Relations and Trade, Ndiitah Nghipondoka-Robiati, echoed the call for impactful collaboration. She encouraged diplomats to exchange substantive ideas to reinforce cooperation. “I have no doubt that our combined efforts will translate into quality outcomes supported by documents with meaningful recommendations for our ministers,” she said.
