The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, on Tuesday, 23 September 2025, convened a Strategic Police Officers’ Conference with senior officers, including Assistant Inspectors-General (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs), at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The conference provided a platform for performance review, strategic planning, and operational recalibration as the Force moves into the final quarter of the year.
Egbetokun commended the improvement in Command posture, tactical responses, and supervisory presence across the country since the July conference, saying the gains have boosted public confidence and operational success. He stressed that policing in Nigeria faces complex, hybrid threats and urged senior officers to adopt intelligence-driven strategies, seamless coordination, and visible leadership to stay ahead of criminals.
Highlighting operational achievements over the last two months, the IGP disclosed that between 31 July and 23 September 2025, the Police arrested 4,383 suspects nationwide for serious offences. These include 481 armed robbery suspects, 260 kidnappers, 371 suspects for murder or culpable homicide, 161 for unlawful possession of firearms, 322 suspected rapists, 375 suspected cultists, and 2,413 others for various crimes. Within the same period, 716 firearms, 21,238 rounds of ammunition, and 212 vehicles were recovered, while 1,138 kidnapped victims were rescued.
Looking ahead, the IGP directed all Zonal AIGs and State Commands to activate multi-layered visibility policing frameworks, intensify community engagement, and increase proactive patrols of highways, feeder routes, and forest corridors, especially during the “Ember Months” often associated with rising crime.
The conference ended with senior officers pledging to sustain crime prevention and law enforcement efforts nationwide while strengthening operational calendars for October to December 2025 and beyond.
