The Nigeria Customs Service Board (NCSB), at its 63rd regular meeting chaired by the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has approved new appointments, promotions, and key operational reforms aimed at strengthening the Service.
The Board approved the appointment of four Deputy Comptroller-Generals and twelve Assistant Comptroller-Generals to fill existing vacancies created by recent retirements, while ensuring equitable representation in line with the Federal Character Policy. In the same sitting, the Board endorsed the promotion of 3,312 senior officers across various ranks. Separately, at its 6th Management Meeting held on August 29, 2025, the Service also approved the promotion of 202 junior officers. These decisions reflect the Service’s commitment to merit-based career progression and recognition of excellence.
During the meeting, the Board reviewed the Service’s revenue performance for the first half of 2025. Between January and June, the Service recorded ₦3.68 trillion in revenue, surpassing its projection by ₦390.2 billion, representing 11.85 percent above target. This achievement signifies the effectiveness of reforms, enhanced compliance among stakeholders, and improved use of technology in Customs operations.
Updates were also presented on the Trade Modernisation Project, with notable progress recorded. These include the deployment of the Unified Customs Management System, arrival of six scanners including the FS6000 model, procurement of Electronic Cargo Tracking System equipment, setup of the Centralised Image Analysis System at Customs Headquarters, reinforcement of cybersecurity, and expansion of capacity-building programmes.
On disciplinary matters, the Board considered pending cases and approved the demotion of two officers for misconduct while reinstating two others after due review. These measures, it noted, reflect the Service’s commitment to accountability, fairness, and discipline.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, congratulated all newly appointed and promoted officers and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them. He reiterated the Service’s unwavering dedication to innovation, transparency, inclusivity, and excellence in service delivery, while expressing gratitude to the Honourable Minister of Finance for his continued support and guidance.
