The government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening local industries to attract investment and generate more jobs for Tanzanians.
Minister of Industry and Trade, Dr. Selemani Jafo, made the pledge during a recent visit to Coca-Cola Kwanza’s plant in Dar es Salaam, where the company is celebrating 30 years of operation in the country.
Dr. Jafo, who toured the facility to assess its production processes, technological investments, and employment contributions, praised Coca-Cola Kwanza for its impact on Tanzania’s economy.
“I am very impressed by the level of investment and modern equipment here,” Dr. Jafo said. “Coca-Cola Kwanza supports a large number of jobs both directly and indirectly.”
While Coca-Cola products have been available in Tanzania for over six decades, the establishment of Coca-Cola Kwanza three decades ago has deepened the company’s role in the local economy.
Coca-Cola Kwanza Managing Director, Ungu Chait, said the company’s mission extends beyond beverages to fostering inclusive growth. “Our mission is not just to sell drinks. We want to grow together with the people of Tanzania by supporting local businesses and creating jobs,” he said.
Mr. Chait also pointed to the company’s environmental and social initiatives, which include water conservation, waste reduction, and tree-planting programmes—efforts that build on earlier environmental policies championed by Dr. Jafo.
Additionally, Coca-Cola Kwanza supports women, young people, and persons with disabilities through small business financing, skills training, and education initiatives.
“As we mark 30 years in Tanzania, we are focused on the future. We want to grow in a way that builds a stronger and more sustainable economy for all,” Mr. Chait added.
