The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), in partnership with the Department of Meteorological Services under the Ministry of Water and Environment, has launched a two-day Aviation Weather Awareness Workshop aimed at enhancing safety in the country’s air transport sector.
The event, running from August 14 to 15, 2025, at the Imperial Golf View Hotel in Entebbe, brings together meteorologists, aviation professionals, airline operators, air traffic controllers, and other stakeholders to improve coordination, boost operational efficiency, and strengthen preparedness for climate-related challenges.
Opening the workshop, UCAA Director General Fred K. Bamwesigye stressed that accurate, timely, and reliable weather information is critical for flight safety, operational planning, and efficiency from take-off to landing. He noted that with aircraft movements rising from 21,584 in 2021 to 32,552 in 2024, safety measures must evolve to match the growing operational demands.
“We must work together to share knowledge, experiences, and solutions that will advance Uganda’s aviation safety and efficiency,” Mr. Bamwesigye said.
The Commissioner for Meteorology, Dr. Bob Alex Ogwang, echoed the need for strong partnerships, stating that weather information only delivers value when it drives proactive action. “By working together, we can turn forecasts into proactive safety measures,” he said.
The workshop reinforces UCAA’s commitment to its core mission of prioritizing “Safety, Safety & Safety” in Uganda’s aviation industry.
