In a move aimed at simplifying tax compliance, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has introduced the use of National Identity Card (ID) numbers as a new login option for individual users on its iTax platform.
Previously, access to iTax was only possible through a Personal Identification Number (PIN). While the PIN system remains valid, the inclusion of ID numbers as an alternative login method is expected to ease access for many users.
According to KRA, the decision follows consistent feedback from taxpayers who noted that ID numbers are easier to remember and are more commonly used for everyday identification. The change is part of a broader effort to modernize tax administration and promote the adoption of digital services.
“The goal is to reduce barriers in accessing tax services and encourage voluntary compliance,” KRA stated.
The iTax platform allows users to file tax returns, make payments, apply for tax compliance certificates, and manage various tax-related activities. With the enhanced login feature, KRA is optimistic that more Kenyans will engage with the system and contribute to expanding the country’s tax base.
