South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, has highlighted the relationship between South Africa and Senegal as a model of how two friendly African nations can cooperate to maximise mutual benefits.
He emphasised that while bilateral investment and trade already exist, there is considerable potential for further expansion, noting that South Africa aimed to strengthen diplomatic and economic relations between South Africa and Senegal.
Lamola made this declaration during a two-day working visit to Dakar, where he commended the effort of development between South Africa and Senegal, stating that both countries “present a good model of how two friendly African countries cooperate and can maximise opportunities for mutual benefit.”

During his visit, Lamola commended the ongoing development between the two countries, stating that South Africa and Senegal present an exemplary model of how African nations can work together to maximize mutual benefits. He noted that while bilateral trade and investment are already established, they offer room for further growth, highlighting the opportunity for greater cooperation.
It was noted that a focus of the visit was Lamola’s participation in co-chairing the inaugural session of the Ministerial Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation alongside Senegal’s Foreign Minister, Yassine Fall.
