The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana is conducting Special Voting today, Monday, December 2, across 14 regions, excluding the Eastern and Western Regions.
This exercise allows security personnel, media practitioners, and election officials, who will be on duty during the December 7 polls, to cast their votes in advance.
Approximately 131,478 voters, representing 0.007 percent of the total registered electorate of 18,741,159, are expected to participate.
The exclusion of the Eastern and Western Regions follows a breach of security seals on ballot papers meant for these areas, prompting the EC to recall and reprint the affected materials.
Special Voting for these regions has been rescheduled for Thursday, December 5, to ensure the integrity of the process.
Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, has assured the public of a smooth and credible exercise while urging eligible voters to adhere to the guidelines and present valid identification at designated polling centres, open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Votes cast during Special Voting will not be counted immediately but will be tallied on December 7 at Constituency Collation Centres alongside results from the main election.
Security has been heightened nationwide, with the National Election Security Taskforce overseeing operations at polling stations.
Political parties and observers have deployed representatives to monitor the process, ensuring fairness and transparency.
The EC has called for calm and cooperation from all stakeholders, reaffirming its commitment to delivering free, fair, and credible elections.
