Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has underscored the importance of digitalization in securing Ghana’s economic future.
Speaking at the launch of the CitizenApp on October 7, 2024, at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that digital growth is key to propelling the nation into a new era of economic independence.
“As the world enters the fourth industrial revolution, it has become obvious that no economic strategy can succeed without a strong digital foundation,” he noted, highlighting sectors like public administration, trade, education, financial inclusion, and healthcare as areas that will benefit from this initiative.
Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, who joined Dr. Bawumia at the event, praised the CitizenApp for its transformative potential in enhancing transparency and accountability within government transactions.
He emphasized that the app would revolutionize the tax administration system, making the process more accessible and efficient for citizens.
“One of the key areas where the CitizenApp will make an immediate and profound impact is in tax administration,” Dr. Adam remarked, explaining that the app will simplify the previously complex process of tax compliance, allowing individuals and businesses to handle their taxes digitally without the need for physical visits.
In addition to improving tax compliance, the CitizenApp is expected to play a significant role in reducing financial mismanagement and corruption.
Dr. Adam stressed, “With the CitizenApp, all government transactions will be fully traceable and accountable,” a statement that has resonated positively with citizens long frustrated by inefficiencies in public service interactions.
The app consolidates various government services, enabling users to file taxes, apply for passports, renew drivers’ licenses, and pay utility bills from a single platform, thus promising to create a seamless experience for all Ghanaians.
