The Government of Ghana has launched a portal Revolutionary Online Education Portal to Transform Learning Nationwide.
The Ghana Knowledge and Skills Bank (GKSB) platform, under the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation, aims to provide students with unprecedented access to educational resources.
The platform boasts content from reputable sources, such as Cambridge University Press and Cengage Learning, and materials developed by the Ghana Education Service and the Centre for National Distance Learning and Open Schooling (CENDLOS).
“It doesn’t matter where you are… you have access to the same resources as your peers in the most advanced educational institutions,” said Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Communications Minister.
The project, supported by the World Bank and MTN Ghana, positions Ghana as the second African country, after Egypt, to launch such a system aimed at bridging the educational gap.
The platform will connect students, teachers, lecturers, and other stakeholders in the teaching and learning sector.
With features like career planning tools, Artificial Intelligence integration for exam preparation, and accessibility both online and offline, the portal also includes audiovisual content in Ghanaian languages to enhance comprehension for students nationwide.
“The portal brings language, culture, and content acquisition to the doorstep of every Ghanaian student,” remarked Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education.
The initiative forms part of the government’s broader eTransform Ghana project, which began in 2015 to leverage technology for improving public service delivery.
Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful emphasized the project’s ability to deliver quality education to even the most remote areas, ensuring equal opportunities for all students.
Dr. Adutwum echoed these sentiments, stressing that the platform’s modern learning tools would reshape the education landscape.
“We cannot educate 21st-century children in 19th-century buildings and expect 21st-century outcomes,” he said, signaling the government’s commitment to innovative learning solutions for the youth.
