The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has released GH¢400 million to settle outstanding claims owed to healthcare providers across Ghana.
This payment, which covers claims for April and May 2024, is part of the NHIA’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the sustainability and efficiency of healthcare delivery under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). With this latest disbursement, the total amount paid to service providers this year exceeds GH¢1.4 billion.
The NHIA emphasized that this substantial release not only closes the debt gap but also reaffirms its dedication to maintaining a robust healthcare system.
In a statement, the NHIA highlighted its continuous efforts to ensure timely payments, noting that these disbursements are crucial for improving the quality of care provided to NHIS members.
The Authority aims to keep outstanding payments within the agreed three-month reimbursement period, which supports the operational needs of healthcare facilities nationwide.
“Timely payment of claims is essential for sustaining the quality of services provided to our members,” the statement added, underscoring the importance of these efforts in strengthening partnerships with healthcare providers.
This GH¢400 million disbursement follows a series of payments made earlier this year, including GH¢300 million in January and GH¢151 million in August, among others.
The NHIA’s ongoing financial support is seen as a positive step towards reinforcing Ghana’s healthcare system.
By ensuring consistent funding, the NHIA seek to sustain the effectiveness of the NHIS, ensuring comprehensive coverage for all diseases under the scheme and supporting the delivery of essential healthcare services to all Ghanaians.
The NHIA also expressed gratitude to healthcare providers for their dedication and crucial role in the success of the NHIS.
